In the spirit of patriotism

Sutera Harbour Resort organised its annual National Day celebration on 16 August 2018 at the Covered Tennis Court Sutera Harbour Marina Golf and Country Club.

 

Sabah Chief Minister YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Shafie bin Apdal officiated the event.

 

The Chief Minister and his wife, attended the event alongside scores of Sabah’s ministers and other dignitaries including Sutera Harbour Resort Executive Chairman Datuk Sam Goi, Group CEO Mr Gilbert Ee, Chief Operating Officer Mr Kenneth Goi and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr Gerard Tan.

 

 

Upon arrival, Shafie mingled around with some 600 spectators comprising of the staff of Sutera Harbour Resort as well as local and foreign guests.

 

In his speech, Shafie said that it was important for everyone to have a strong spirit of patriotism. With patriotism, everyone would stay loyal to their country and would make sure everyone live in peace and harmony.

 

“Living in a multiracial country, it is vital for everyone to respect each other and work together to ensure the sovereignty of our nation is intact,” he added.

 

Shafie also personally commended Datuk Sam Goi for the latter’s effort in answering the government’s call to organise such event in Sutera Harbour Resort.

 

“Having an investor like GSH Corporation is a privilege. With their notable endowment, they have not only provided job opportunities to Sabahans but indirectly contribute to the betterment of the staff’s livelihood,” Shafie said.

 

The Chief Minister also reminded all staff of the Resort to work dedicatedly and provide their services with commitment and respect.

 

Shafie re-enacted the scene from years ago when the ten Prime Minster Tunku Abdul Rahman proclaimed independence by chanting Merdeka seven times.

Themed "Sayangi Malaysiaku", the celebration saw parades by 8 contingents from several uniformed bodies, including Sutera Harbour Resort very own auxiliary police.

 

Other highlights of the event include releasing of birds symbolising freedom, flag rising ceremony, flag topping ceremony, recitation of Malaysia’s national principles and of course the valorous war dance performed by Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic Territorial Army’s Regiment 507.
